“We moved so our child could have a better life… so why do they keep saying they want to go home?” This is something I hear often from expat parents. The first few weeks after an international move can feel exciting, new, and full of possibility. But once the novelty wears off, many children and teens begin to feel the weight of what they have left behind. I call this the 6-Week Expat Crash.

Expat children can cope remarkably well and still be under chronic stress. Both can be true. What are some of the things we miss when we equate coping with wellbeing?
